Next stop is August 16th! Sign up now! We've had to move this event to Mission Bay - see the explanation at the right.

Event 2 was a hit!
Ed Howerton brought new tactics to the table and his innovation paid off. A 13.25# limit was enough to best the field of 120 anglers and take home the $1,001 prize. Other familiar faces at the top were Dennis Burlason with 2nd and Brian Sanner in 3rd.

Event 1 is in the bag! Brian Sanner swept the crowd of 160 anglers and took home the $1,001 prize. Dennis Burlason was in 2nd place and walked away with a custom rod from CCRods.com and the jackpot cash - $700!

Changes are coming!

As the Plastic Navy continues to grow and evolve we are going to make some changes that will make things easier to manage and hopefully will provide you with more information and FASTER access to our message boards and articles.

On a sadder note we’re forced to change the location for the August tournament. Orange County’s requirements for us to hold another event there exceed what we consider reasonable bounds and prohibit us from holding a tournament on their lands. Dana Pt is one of my favorite launches and some of my best calico fishing days are there so this bums me out, personally.

We’ve arranged to have the August 16th event moved to Mission Bay. It’s a repeat location just like how we hit Newport twice last year. More information coming soon…stay tuned!

The first part of this change is the announcement that we're finally splitting the KayakFishNation.com website away from the PlasticNavy.com site. Currently they point to the same place and are, in fact, one site. You will want to make sure your bookmark or favorites are pointed to PlasticNavy.com for our website.

Starting this week we will have a new site for KFN including regular videos that we are producing to help new kayak anglers get a jump on the sport. This was sparked by Hobie Kayaks teammate Nate "Steamroll" Clookie and I talking about ways to promote the sport and has now evolved into a cool project that allows us to create videos fairly quickly and put them online to share. The first three videos are both Hobie kayak sponsored and are linked here:

http://youtube.com/kayakfishnation
1. Install a fish finder with the Hobie Fish Finder Installation Kit
2. Install a sailing rudder on a Hobie Fishing kayak
3. Hobie Livewell unboxing and setup

In process are an anchor or driftchute trolley, adding turbo fins to the Mirage drive setup, a discussion of using braid on low-profile reels, some on-the-water video, freshwater bass fishing on the kayak etc.

We are also going to be changing the way we get together. Tournaments have been good to us and we will always have tournaments as a part of our schedule but not as many of them. Other types of events and gatherings can benefit the kayak angling community, help grow the sport and provide entertainment for all of us.

A new addition to our gatherings will be the new One Lure Challenge series. Berkley has agreed to provide new baits for a unique event where anglers bring only rods and line, they will provide lures, we provide the venue. We will start these in the fall.

Any questions about the move are welcome either here or in my email.

On behalf of the PN crew,

Drew
